Statement Calling for a Ceasefire in Gaza

“’Nobody is free until everybody is free.’ Since our founding, that slogan — uttered by Fannie Lou Hamer — has been the bedrock of our mission. It is also the basis of our plea for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and, ultimately, for freedom in Palestine.

If we claim to truly envision and work toward a world where freedom is equally accessible to all, we cannot accept the premise that one group’s liberty depends upon another group’s oppression — or even worse, upon another’s elimination. That supremacist principle is the basis for genocide, as we are seeing carried out in Gaza. It is also the basis for immigrant detention, mass incarceration, and the criminalization of poor, Black, brown, and Native people in the United States.

We believe that freedom, not oppression, is the only basis on which peace and community well-being can ultimately be built. Because we believe this, we are proud members of the global movement demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and freedom for the people of Palestine.”
