DONATIONS UPDATE - June 5, 2020
The financial needs for protester bails has almost certainly been met. Starting June 5, donations may be used to expand legal support for those arrested or incarcerated protesting the murder of George Floyd, and our core values and mission. Further donations will help pay cash bail and immigration bonds for those who cannot afford to do so, and advance our efforts to end the unjust practice of cash bail and pretrial punishment in Minnesota.

PAUSE ON DONATIONS - June 2, 2020
We are no longer the same organization we were one week ago. One week ago we were a small bail fund struggling to get anyone to listen about the harms of cash bail and pre-trial detention. We are now flooded with resources and we are going to take a beat while we marshal those. We have some big plays in mind.
Reclaim the Block has posted a list of worthy orgs. Your support is going to do incredible things. We love you.

Our cities and communities are in anguish and outrage over the brutal daytime murder of George Floyd, who lost his life to the deeply ingrained racism and historic violence of the Minneapolis Police Department, and monstrous actions of former officer Derek Chauvin. Three other officers remain uncharged. The world has shown up in support for those who are taking to the streets to demand the long-overdue end to police brutality that has taken the lives of too many of our black, brown and Native people.
With solemn gratitude, we have been flooded with tens of thousands donations large and small, totalling around $20 million dollars. We did not ask for or anticipate this massive outpouring of support. We simply said yes to the call to support and bail out people jailed for protesting for justice for George Floyd. We will walk with transparency and accountability to use those funds to first and foremost pay bail for those who have shown up in love and grief and rage to demand justice for the murder of George Floyd, and then to post bail in our community for those who are held pretrial simply because they cannot pay and to post bonds to free people from ICE detention. We are dedicated to staying true to our central mission and the intent of these donations--which is freedom.
We now encourage people to generously donate to George Floyd’s family and other local organizations, especially those which are Black and BIPOC led, and which are working to lift up communities, end police brutality, and build a more just future.
We are a small organization with a modest beginning, and an abundance of passion from the volunteers who help us do our work. We are working around the clock to ensure community members and advocates for justice are released from custody, and we will continue to work non-stop to ensure freedom for our communities from both pretrial and immigration detention. We invite you to follow our Facebook page and check our website to stay informed about emerging opportunities to help the Minnesota Freedom Fund. We encourage people to donate to local Black and BIPOC-led organizing work in Minnesota and beyond. Any donations received by MFF from here on out will help us continue to free people and also advance our capacity and advocacy to abolish the prison industrial complex.
In the Twin Cities and around the country, people are pouring into the streets to say enough is enough, and to demand that we as a nation reckon with our deep-rooted systemic, personal, and institutional racism. We hear you. We see you.
Black lives matter. Mr. Floyd’s life mattered.
