MINNEAPOLIS — As of Aug. 1st, it's legal to use marijuana in Minnesota. But does legalization really make weed legal for all of us?

For immigrants and people without legal status, this question is particularly thorny. Because marijuana is still criminalized at the federal level, any admission of marijuana use or possession -- even in a state where weed is legal -- can lead to a denial of naturalization, loss of eligibility for family immigration, and disqualification for a cancellation of removal.

It's just one more example of the opaque, unfair, and discriminatory "crimmigration" system that criminalizes immigrants based solely on their legal status.
