Organizational Summary  

The Minnesota Freedom Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for social justice and supporting individuals who are unable to afford bail or immigration bonds. Our focus lies in addressing issues related to pre-trial justice and immigration detention, aiming to combat discrimination and oppression within the criminal justice system. By providing financial assistance to those in need, the organization works towards creating a society that values the freedom and rights of all individuals, regardless of their socioeconomic status or identity. 

Position Overview 

The Human Resource Director is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and management of the human resources function within the organization. Partnering in shaping the organization’s culture, talent strategy and overall success, while also managing union relations and negotiations effectively. This position involves developing and implementing HR policies, programs, and initiatives that align with the organization's goals and objectives. This position requires a strategic mindset, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for driving organizational excellence through effective HR management, while also balancing union requirements and considerations. 

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Develop, implement, and enforce HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.  

  • Oversee the recruitment and selection process, including workforce planning, job postings, candidate sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding. Develop strategies to attract, retain, and develop top talent. 

  • Lead initiatives to enhance organizational effectiveness, culture, and employee engagement. Identify opportunities for process improvement, leadership development, and change management initiatives. 

  • Manage union relations and negotiations effectively, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements and labor laws; Maintain positive labor relations and resolve disputes in a fair and timely manner. 

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to management and employees on employee relations matters, including performance management, disciplinary actions, grievances, and conflict resolution.  

  • Develop and manage compensation and benefits programs that are competitive, equitable, and aligned with organizational goals. Monitor industry trends and benchmarking data to ensure the organization remains competitive in the market. 

  • Identify learning needs, coordinate training sessions, and measure the effectiveness of training initiatives. 

  • Establish key HR metrics and analytics to track and measure the effectiveness of HR programs and initiatives. Prepare reports and present findings to the leadership team and board of directors to inform decision-making. 

  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and optimization of HRIS and other HR technology solutions. Ensure systems are user-friendly, secure, and support the organization's HR needs. 

Skills & Knowledge 

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; Master’s degree preferred. 

  • 5+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. 

  • Strong understanding of HR principles, practices, and employment laws. 

  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing HR strategies and initiatives that drive organizational success. 

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate at all levels of the organization. 

  • Strategic thinker with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions. 

  • Enthusiasm for the organization's mission and a commitment to its success. 

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. 

  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification preferred. 

Requirements  

  • Available to work evenings and weekends to attend board meetings, events etc  

  • Valid Drivers license  

  • Ability to thrive in hybrid work environment 

Salary & Benefits   

The salary range for this position begins at $90,000 and is negotiable above that, commensurate with experience.

Our benefits include four weeks paid vacation in addition to 13 office holidays; plus earned sick and safe time, 401(k) Plan with employer match, short-term and long-term disability insurance, medical and dental insurance is currently provided, and ongoing training/educational opportunities. 

Salary and Benefits 

The Human Resources Manager and Office Administrator is a full-time position that is expected to work 40 hours per week.  The salary range for this position is $62,000-72,000:
