“Do something”: Watch MFF executive director elizer darris call for action from local officials in ice killing

January 9, 2026

Following Minnesota Freedom Fund’s statement yesterday calling for accountability in the killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent in South Minneapolis, MFF Executive Director Elizer Darris spoke at a community event last night furthering the call to local officials to “stand up” and “do something” against “federal tyranny.”

“Our expectation in tragedies like this: Law enforcement would undergo due diligence. Determine whether or not a crime has been committed, and bring charges,” Darris said. “And, ultimately, for a jury of this person’s peers to bring a conviction. Now, that’s in the normal situation — what we would normally expect to happen. But we’re not dealing with normal times. These are not normal situations.”

Darris called on the county attorney, the attorney general, the governor, the sheriff’s office, the police chief, and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to investigate and bring charges. “We need our local authorities to stand up or tell us you are abandoning us,” Darris continued. “Say that you’re going to leave us at the hands of a Federal government that … has no checks, no balances. Tell us that you’re going to allow them to murder us and do nothing. Then, we can make a decision of who we need in those seats to protect and defend us.”
